A letter from the directors of the Boulder Institute

Over the past 15 years the programs of the Boulder Institute have been defined by our engaging in teaching and service in a number of contexts around the world – indigenous rights and environmental ethics in Southeast Asia, peace-building and nonviolence in the Middle East, and trainings for spiritual activists and leaders in Europe. We have learned that the three global movements of our time – Environment, Peace, and Social Justice – all share a root ethic, and we translate among them as the situation requires.

You will find a sample overview of our work from 2000-2004 by clicking on “Accomplishments.”

At times we are joined by others for specific programs, pilgrimages of peace, desert quests, and interfaith solidarity walks. Descriptions of these programs – past and future – may be found by clicking on “Journeys.”

As we travel we write occasional email “LETTERS FROM THE ROAD” to a growing list of friends and strangers. You will find a number of these posted on this site as well, including all of our letters from Iraq. (You can also subscribe to LETTERS FROM THE ROAD if you would like to receive these letters directly.)

We also post here some of our writings regarding this type of pilgrimage and our understanding of the elements of spiritually-based social action. We hope you will find these thoughts meaningful to your own journey.

If you would like to receive our annual Spirit in Action report by post, please contact us. The annual report is the main way we report on our work and experiences while on pilgrimage.

It is through the generosity of friends and a few foundations that we raise the funds we need each year to cover our expenses on the road. If you are inspired by visiting this site to join our group of supporters we would be most grateful – as will all those who benefit from our intention to build a more peaceful and just world. All contributions are tax-deductible and may be sent to our office in Boulder, Colorado.

In peace,

Elizabeth Rabia Roberts           Elias Amidon
